Parent Advisory: Unhealthy Pressure is a Red Flag!

Families should never feel intimidated, or coerced during the tryout process.

Tryout Process & Healthy Club Practices — FAQ

What is a healthy tryout process?

A healthy tryout process provides clear timelines, multiple evaluation opportunities, and space for families to make informed decisions. Athletes are assessed on skill, effort, coachability, and fit—without pressure or fear-based tactics.

What should parents expect from a reputable club?

  • Clear communication about tryout expectations and next steps
  • Transparency around fees, commitments, and expectations

What are signs of unhealthy or unethical practices?

  • “Commit now or lose your spot” messaging
  • Threats of reduced playing time or removal for not signing immediately
  • Unclear policies, shifting promises, or inconsistent communication
  • Fear-based urgency instead of clarity

Is it okay for my athlete to attend multiple tryouts?

Yes. It helps athletes and families evaluate coaching styles, environments, and program fit. Healthy clubs support families taking the time they need.

What if something doesn’t feel right?

Trust your instincts. If a process feels rushed, intimidating, or unclear, ask questions. Families should never feel pressured to decide out of fear.

How does Blue Banner Volleyball approach tryouts?

We prioritize athlete development, and clear communication. Our tryout process is designed to be transparent, flexible, and aligned with NCVA guidelines—so families can make confident, informed decisions.
